With this complete rust kit, you can quickly and controllably give your corten steel products their characteristic rusty look, without having to wait for months. The rust accelerator shortens the natural oxidation process from about 6 months to an average of 3 weeks. The rust fixer then ensures the surface is stabilised.
How does it work?
1. Accelerate the rusting process
Apply the rust accelerator every two days by lightly spraying the surface. Make sure the product is evenly distributed, but avoid making it excessively wet. Let it soak in well each time and repeat this process until the desired level of rust is achieved.
2. Mind the surface underneath
During the rusting process, rusty water may be released. This can cause stains on tiles or other surfaces.
-
Ideally, let the product rust on grass first
-
If that's not possible, use a tarpaulin or protective cloth under the product
3. Let it rust completely
It is essential that the steel is fully rusted before you proceed to the next step.
Please note: if the rust fixer is applied too early, the rusting process will stop immediately and the steel will not rust any further.
4. Fix the rust
Once the desired level of rust is achieved, apply the rust fixer. This stops the oxidation process and prevents any more rusty water from being released. This ensures a stable and low-maintenance finish.
Important advice for placement on tiles
If the product will be placed on tiles, it is recommended to let it rust completely before placement. Treat the inside as well, if possible. This prevents rusty water from being released from the bottom later on.
With this kit, you have full control over the rusting process and the final result.
