Corten steel is a very strong type of steel that covers itself with a protective layer of rust when exposed to the outside air. The letterbox is always delivered unrusted and gets its beautiful rust color/layer when it is outside. This process takes approximately 6 to 12 months. This process can be accelerated to 2 weeks by using the rust accelerator. The rust accelerator can be found at the bottom of this page under smart combinations.

Installing a Freestanding Mailbox
When installing a freestanding mailbox, it's important to follow certain guidelines, including those for parcel mailboxes and wall-mounted models. While there are no strict design requirements, the mailbox should not resemble public postal boxes, and the flap should be safe for postal workers.
Placement is also essential. Mailboxes should be positioned as close as possible to the public road for easy access. The maximum distance from the street is 10 meters, and postal workers should not have to walk more than 2.5 meters from the road to deliver mail. Proper numbering with your house number is mandatory.
For optimal usability, the mailbox should be mounted at a height of approximately 1.1 meters, with a letter opening large enough for standard mail. It should be no lower than 0.6 meters and no higher than 1.8 meters from the ground.
